Andrew Miller Photography, a boutique photography firm, received unexpected but welcome attention after snapping a spectacular double rainbow adorning the Chicago skyline. The image reached a broader audience through social media and the Huffington Post, creating a friendly debate as many people wondered if the image was genuine.
If you ask Miller, capturing such an influential photo was a combination of timing, instinct and skill. And of course, luck!
Once the buzz settled, Miller received numerous requests from customers looking to purchase the image. While he could generate 11” x 17” prints in his studio, the photographer needed a reliable printer to assist with oversized versions such as 30” x 40”. After researching numerous printing options, Miller ultimately selected Cushing.
Color Matching
Each client, print and project is different. Miller’s cityscape has the look of a water color painting; many people assumed the photograph used software such as Photoshop to make the color stand out. The print team at Cushing needed to ensure the color matched the original.
In Person Proofing
With this project, the proofing process was critically important to Miller. He visited the Cushing office to confirm the print was moving in the right direction. The River North location (access from the suburbs, Chicago loop and points around the area) allowed the photographer to personally inspect proofs.
Paper Choices
Miller needed different paper options and consultation on which was best for his photo. Cushing provided several to choose from, including matte, satin and gloss. Options provided the photographer point of reference when deciding which would be the best fit to reach a wider customer base.
Ultimately, Miller chose inkjet printing on satin paper for his Chicago skyline image.
