Did you know this family-friendly retailer started in the Windy City?
At Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store, their highest priority is ensuring that you have the right gear for your adventure. From traveling through Europe to trekking in the Rockies, Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store will get you prepared for anything that might come your way. After all, that’s what they’ve been doing since the very first Uncle Dan’s opened its doors back in 1972. Read more about their history.
A Natural Fit
As the marketing manager, Stephanie Weiss handles all promotional outreach. Email marketing, website content – as well as in-store displays and point-of-purchase graphics. Her father, Brent Weiss founded Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store, and growing up around the business, she says “the store has always been a part of my life.”
After college graduation, she joined the team.
Special Delivery
How did Cushing and Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store originally cross paths? A delivery van presented branding opportunity. Stephanie searched Google for local vehicle wraps companies, found Cushing, and contacted the team. Five years later, projects include in-store displays, window signage, and banners.
Next on the trail? Branded graphics in their new Evanston retail location.
“I always have a great experience when I work with Cushing. They offers a wide variety of services, which is really helpful for a retail store with many different kinds of needs. When I reach out with a new project, I always get quick and thorough responses to my emails. Our rep always works with me to ensure we have fast turn around when we’re in a pinch, and I know the final product will be high quality.”
More Than a Store
At the neighborhood retailer, their mission transcends selling outdoor gear. They believe in building a community.
“Our goal is to be a place where outdoor enthusiasts come to be inspired and get meaningful advice,” says Stephanie.
Customers visit to discover the best gear for an upcoming backpacking trip, or to learn which camping products are best for beginners. What else? Their team shares tips on how to layer up and survive a Chicago winter!

Measuring Up
Next up? A short trek. Cushing team member Erik Reczek visited the new Evanston location for a site survey. Taking wall measurements, he made note of fixtures to ensure graphics would fit properly.
Hardware suggestions were used to hang graphics. Overall, displays were custom to fit the retail space.
Erik is pictured leading a group of Marwen students on a tour of the Cushing graphics lab.
The Great Indoors
Throughout the retail space are tasteful, framed prints. Scenes include hiking trails, natural landscapes, and outdoor enthusiasts – embracing the elements, of course!
Strategically positioned, images appeal to the retailer’s customers and complement product within the store.
“We’re very happy with the final outcome. The graphics look fantastic! The Cushing team was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend them to another business.”
GRAPHICS EXTEND THE BRAND BEYOND THE RETAIL SPACE
Front and Center
Storefront window graphics create brand impressions at the front door. Prominent, vinyl cut logos appear on both sides of the entrance. Window signage portrays different outdoor scenes.
All deadlines were met for this custom signage project.
I always have a great experience when I work with Cushing Co. They offer a wide variety of services, which is really helpful for a retail store with many kinds of needs.
